How to identify progressive die, single punch die, and transfer die? This article is to introduce their characteristics.

Stamping is one of the metal forming methods. It has the advantages of high quality, high efficiency, energy saving, material saving and low cost. It is widely used in many fields of the national economy such as machinery, automobiles, electronics, and household appliances. It has become an important means of material forming as an irreplaceable role. A blanking die is a die that separates the material along a defined contour from a strip, plate, or semi-finished product. According to the nature of the process, blanking dies can be divided into blanking dies, punching dies, trimming dies, cutting dies, etc., and can be roughly classified into single punch dies, progressive dies, and transfer dies according to the level of combination of processes.

Continuous die (also known as progressive die, skip die) refers to the die in which the press completes multiple processes at the same time in several different positions in one stroke. The blanking parts are gradually formed in the continuous die. Continuous forming is a process method with concentrated processes, which can make various processes such as trimming, notching, grooving, punching, deformation, and blanking completed on a pair of molds. According to the actual needs of stamping parts, multiple stamping processes (called stations in the progressive die) are arranged in a certain order for continuous stamping. It can not only complete the blanking process, but also the forming process and even the assembly process. Many complex stamping parts that require multi-process stamping can be completely formed on a pair of molds, which provides favorable conditions for high-speed automatic stamping. As a conclusion, progressive die is a punching die with many stations and high efficiency.

(1) A pair of progressive die can complete multiple processes such as blanking, bending, forming, and deep drawing. The press can punch one workpiece or process piece per stroke, so it has higher labor productivity than compound dies.

(2) The use of progressive die stamping can reduce the number of equipment, molds and workshop area, and save the transportation and storage of semi-finished products.

(3) The progressive die uses coil or tape, and it is easy to automate the feeding, discharging and lamination. In the stamping process of the automatic progressive die, the human body does not have to enter the dangerous area, and the operation is safe.

(4) The various processes of the progressive mold are dispersed in each station, and there is no problem of "minimum wall thickness" of the composite mold, so the mold has high strength and long life.

(5) The progressive die has complex structure, high manufacturing precision, long cycle, high cost and difficult maintenance.

(6) Since each process is completed in different stations, the accumulated positioning error will affect the accuracy of the workpiece, so the accuracy of the workpiece produced by the continuous mold is not very high.

Engineering die (single punch die) press is a die that only completes one process in one stamping stroke. It is a single-station, single-process die. It is characterized by a simple die structure and requires manual or robotic arm assistance. The efficiency is low, and the cumulative error of stamping parts is large. It is mainly used to produce workpieces with small batches and low precision requirements. When the factory chooses the type of mold, due to factors such as the low cost of single-punch molds and the low tonnage requirements for punching machines, the single-punch mold is often the first choice when formulating a mold designing plan. The specific gravity of the mold will be gradually replaced by the continuous mold and the transfer mold.

The multi-station transfer die generally refers to a type of die that is used on a dedicated multi-station punch and is installed by a number of single punch dies with certain process connections in the process sequence, and the parts are transferred by a manipulator. The most important features of the multi-station transfer die are as follows.

(1) Transfer die are used on the multi-station transfer press machine.

(2) Each station is a complete engineering die to complete a specific process. Each engineering mold (sub-mold) has a certain relationship, and each step sub-mold can be adjusted independently, and the adjustment is generally not restricted by the front and rear sub-molds.

(3) Transmission method: by transfer manipulator.

World Machinery can provide C frame single crank press suitable for single punch mold and progressive die. We can also supply H frame double crank press machine with wide bolster, which is suitable for transfer die and progrossive die stamping.
